In August 2021, we were finishing up summer and gearing up for the first day of school and an exciting fall baseball season when Luke started having extreme fatigue and a low grade fever. Our pediatrician listened to our concerns, but we were not prepared when we were diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia based off Luke's initial bloodwork. We were admitted to Dell Children's Hospital in Austin the day he was diagnosed. We started on a journey that would lead him through five rounds of chemo and almost 8 months in the hospital. Luke left an amazing team at Dell in good spirits and in remission! We left our Austin and Dripping Springs friends and family to move to Huntsville, AL so we could be in the St Jude catchment area if he ever had a relapse. We have found a warm and gracious group of family and friends here in Huntsville, too.
On October 10, 2024, we noticed extreme fatigue again, along with some petechiae (broken blood vessels), and that prompted another bone marrow biopsy that confirmed AML.
We start another journey at St Jude in Memphis on Monday, October 14, 2024 that will most certainly include more chemo and bone marrow transplant.
We are a family of faith and we have felt loved and surrounded by prayers across the globe. "For with God, nothing is impossible" Luke 1:37
Love,
Julie
